PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
